Here’s a large scale mural that I did recently for Steve Mackinnon’s awesome recording studio. That’s Steve in the foreground and me on the couch with a ukelele. It’s on the canvas of a sound treatment panel, stained with layers of diluted acrylic so to not diminish the function of dampening reflections.
I have a group of 20 small paintings on display until May at The Museum in Kitchener, Ontario. Searching For Tom – Tom Thomson: Man, Myth, and Masterworks, brings together original works by Thomson along side pieces by contemporary artists who have been influenced and inspired. My paintings are of the WAV files, or digital recordings of my vocal tracks from my soon to be released CD Turpentine Wind – which is a song cycle inspired by Thomson’s life. I will be performing the suite at The Museum on April 13th with my band – Maury Lafoy, David Matheson and Mark Mariash. Time and ticket details will be posted closer to the date.
Here’s the cover art for Mike Evin‘s excellent new CD “Do You Feel The World?”. He has nice posters of this for sale on his site too. I liked the image so much I’ve started exploring it further in a series of paintings on wood panels. I’ll post the results soon.
My exhibit of Burt Bacharach portraits at the The Music Gallery, 197 John Street, Toronto, has been extended until Feb 14. The Gallery is open to the public during performances. Please check out their listings.
This benefit compilation CD of tunes by prominent Canadian jazzers is now available on iTunes. I did the cover art for the project.
NEW ALBUM NEWS
My new concept album Turpentine Wind will be officially released in Feb. 2011 to coincide with an art exhibit. The twelve song CD and BluRay of ambient remixes with animation was inspired by the life and work of landscape painter Tom Thomson, who is also the subject of the show Searching For Tom, which will be on display at The Museum in Kitchener Ontario until May. I’ll post more details about the album and show as we get closer to the date.
